Ken Schmidt, founder and owner of Custom Real Estate Maps has been providing custom mapping services to the telecommunication and cell tower industries for years. More detail on those maps can be seen at www.steelintheair.com.

At its core, the cell tower industry has many of the same core principles as the real estate profession. So much so that the cell tower industry likes to think of itself as "vertical real estate". Many of the techniques for evaluating cell tower locations apply to large and small development projects. GIS can be an instrumental part of both industries.

Mr. Schmidt has significant experience in site acquisition, zoning and permitting and has applied that knowledge to the custom maps that you can see in our gallery and in our samples page. As data is readily available, but often difficult to use in its native format, that application of traditional GIS techniques can yield impressive results, often identifying areas where additional development is needed.

Mr. Schmidt's is formally trained as a lawyer- he possesses a Juris Doctorate from the University of Florida, is a member of the Florida Bar, but does not practice law. He is knowledgeable in GIS and most major mapping applications.
